But to ensure your Ziptrak blinds maintain their quality and functionality, you’ll need to know how to clean them properly.

As with any investment to your home, care and maintenance is key to keeping your new blinds in good condition. Despite being a highly innovative and sophisticated blind system, Ziptrak blinds are not complicated to clean! So, before you turn away from a good investment, read on to find out how to clean Ziptrak blinds.

Features of Ziptrak Blinds

Ziptrak blinds have been designed to stand up to the harshest conditions. Perfect for the unpredictable Australia climate. With the unique design features of the Ziptrak blinds Sydney homeowners don’t need to worry about the climate. Come sunshine or rain, winds or cold weather, you can be sure your outdoor blinds will keep you protected. But they will get dirty over time. Luckily, regular cleaning will keep them going for years.

Certain features of your Ziptrak blinds will determine the best way for cleaning them. This includes the materials from which the blinds have been made and operational features. Size also matters when it comes to using the right cleaning equipment.

Type of Material Used to Construct Your Outdoor Blinds

Ziptrak blinds for outdoor use are made from different materials. You can choose between tinted or clear PVC, privacy mesh or mesh shade weave. This means you can choose the best type of blind for your personal needs.

PVC blinds are useful in the following conditions:

  • To block up to 93% UV
  • Protection against bugs, wind, rain and dust
  • Perfect for colder climates as they retain heat
  • Tinted PVC offer some privacy

Mesh Ziptrak blinds have the following benefits:

  • Blocks up to 95% UV and some wind
  • Reduces dust and insects coming into the area
  • Offers a certain level of privacy

Operational Functionality of Your Outdoor Blinds

You can choose between the motorised or spring-operated blinds. Ziptrak blinds have been designed to be operated simply with no pulley system, fussy zippers or winding. However, you do have the option of going automatic with your Ziptrak being motorised. Whichever operation system you decide on, keeping all the parts clean is key to long lasting outdoor blinds.

Tips for Cleaning Your Ziptrak Blinds

Use the following tips to clean your outdoor blinds:

  • While durable, PVC blinds are porous and can be easily scratched. Stay away from abrasive cleaning equipment and strong detergents.
  • Use either a sponge or a soft microfibre cloth and cold soapy water to wipe down the blinds. You want to remove layers of dust, insect and bird droppings and other dirt accumulated on the blind.
  • Use only the mildest detergents. A recommended product is Swiftee designed specifically for cleaning both PVC and mesh Ziptrak blinds.
  • Rinse down with cold water and wipe dry with a soft microfibre cloth. Leave the blinds down to dry before rolling up.
  • Under no circumstances should you use high pressure hoses.
  • With mesh blinds, you can use a soft bristle broom to lightly brush away any dirt on the blinds. A gentle spray from the hose may be used with a soft cloth and cold soapy water to rid it of any stubborn dirt.
  • Never use bore water to clean your blinds. This applies to letting any bore water irrigation systems spray onto your blinds. Bore water is harsh and will cause damage to your blinds.
  • It’s always a good idea to remove any bird droppings, dead bugs and other dirt from the blinds as soon as you see them. This will eliminate a build-up of dirt, making it easier to clean later.
  • When you’ve cleaned the blinds and they’re dry and rolled up, it’s time to wash the tracks, spline tapes and tacks with water. Once done, give the tracks a dose of lubricant and spray the spline tacks and tapes with a silicone spray. Make sure you don’t use an oil-based lubricant. By keeping your tracks clean of dirt, you’ll also find the blinds operate smoothly.
  • Blinds should be cleaned every 3 to 6 months.

Always follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for cleaning your blinds. When done correctly, Ziptrak blinds should last you a long time.

Your Ziptrak blinds are an investment worth taking care of. They enhance the value of your home and give you added protection against the Australian climate. By giving them some tender, loving care, you’ll be adding years to the lifetime of your outdoor blinds.

What our customers say

Highly recommend All Weather Blinds! Very competitive prices, so easy to communicate with from the office staff who follows through with enquiries to installers. My outdoor blinds install was over a year ago and had a power outage. The blind would only stop 3/4 of the way down. They talked me through how to fix it over the phone, were so patient and in a few minutes it was fixed. Thanks for looking after your customers.
